The Eames EA 119-style high-back office chair is available in different upholstery and back-support configurations, with mesh and thin-pad versions offering distinct experiences.
What is the EA 119-style office chair?
The EA 119 is recognised for its tall back, generous proportions and executive appearance.
Mesh vs thin pad at a glance
Mesh provides an open, breathable feel and can suit warmer rooms. Thin-pad upholstery provides a more traditional cushioned appearance.
Mesh for an open appearance
Mesh has a visually lighter construction and can work well in contemporary offices and minimalist workspaces.
Thin pad for an upholstered feel
A thin padded back and seat introduce visual softness and can complement executive desks, wood furniture and upholstered interiors.
Consider airflow and room temperature
If you work for long periods in a warm room, mesh may be attractive because air can move more freely through the back.
Consider the appearance of your workspace
Think about the desk, flooring, storage and lighting. Mesh can complement glass and metal, while padded versions can sit naturally alongside wood and leather.
Think about maintenance
Maintain the chair according to its specific care instructions. Regular dusting and prompt attention to spills can help keep it looking its best.
Check ergonomics and adjustment features
Check seat height, tilt, recline, armrests and other adjustment features. Desk height and monitor position should also be considered.
Set the chair up for your working position
Adjust the seat so your feet are supported and your arms can approach the desk comfortably. Position the monitor appropriately.
Which style suits different workspaces?
A mesh EA 119-style chair can suit modern, airy workspaces and warmer environments. A thin-pad version can suit executive offices and home studies.
Final thoughts
Compare mesh and thin-pad versions according to airflow, appearance, upholstery preference, maintenance and available adjustments. See the EA 119 Mesh office chair for the current product specification.
Check the exact chair specification
Compare seat height, overall height, width, upholstery and the available adjustments on the exact version you are considering. Mesh and Thin Pad refer to different upholstery constructions; neither label alone guarantees a particular level of support or comfort.
